Was Favre Blackout on Mickey's Monday??

joe@jjsports.net | August 4th, 2010 | 3:26pm CDT

It seems as though most people have caught up with the recent Favre retirement news, so I'll keep the news brief. Favre reportedly sent texts to team and staff members announcing his retirement on Monday night. These reports came out Tuesday morning and spread like icing on cake. ESPN acted like the retirement was real and I think my dad may have cried.

On Wednesday, Ed Werder appeared to corner Favre in his truck where Favre said that he would play this year if he was healthy enough. Favre denied sending any of the texts, so I have to believe that he is using my own rule: If you don't remember it, it didn't happen!

My Theory: As most of us do on Monday's you go out to your local liquor store and get as many 40's of Mickeys Fine Malt Liquor as will fit in a few boxes at the liquor store. You get all your friends together and you socialize and have a good time. Favre clearly had one too many 40's this night and decided he could no longer play football, because he couldn't even stand up. His blurred logic told him to send out a few drunk texts to his teammates announcing his retirement.

He woke up Tuesday morning with a horrible hangover with ESPN still blaring on the TV from the night before and to his surprise, they were announcing his retirement (for the 4th time). He read over his texts from last night and said "FUCK." In his old age I'm sure his hangover was pretty awful and he could barely get out of bed Tuesday. He knew his cover would be blown if he talked to anyone with that hangover so he waited until Wednesday to let us all know that he is in fact planning on coming back (after training camp).

Seems reasonable to me....after all he has had problems with addictions in the past (pain pills).

The Name of the Game

joe@jjsports.net | July 18th, 2010 | 6:36pm CDT

I thought I'd take my first post to explain the game. The name of the game is 'Bold Prediction' for a reason, you will not find any obvious picks here. A lot of your bold predictions will probably fail, but those that succeed can be worth up to 99 points.

Predictions and events will remain on the board until they are no longer bold, and point values will be adjusted as odds fluctuate. The tricky part about the game is deciding when to go for your prediction.

For Example: If I choose the Minnesota Twins to win the American League Championship today, I would be locked in with that pick at 12pts. The point value of that pick will still fluctuate for people who have not yet made a selection, but I would still retain the 12pts if they win.

This blog will run the same way as the game. We will be bold, and we will also probably be wrong quite a bit. Most of the time our blogs will contain no actual information, but simply smack talk.

Indians Will Sweep the Twins

josh@jjsports.net | July 20th, 2010 | 4:06pm CDT

Well the Indians easily took game 1 from the twins (20 hits off what some unnamed twins fan called their "ace" last year). Tonight they face slowey, who likes to give up 5+ ER on a regular basis. Hes your typical twins pitcher, #3 in any other teams rotation.

For some reason, twins fans think having 5 #3 pitchers is gonna get them places. I guess the best case scenario is making the postseason and getting swept 1st round by a real team. So after the win tonight, the tribe will face this years twins "ace" liriano. Gotta love an ace with a .500 record. Standard twins stuff.

Then maybe, after this series, the twins will make a trade for a true ace, like maybe Cliff Lee... oh wait...

UPDATE: While at work tonight, I had to be harassed by my colleague, who was bragging that the Twins were up 1-0 and saying how much Masterson sucked. This was after the 1st inning (Standard Twins fan stuff). He also had to go off about how he knew 1 player on the tribes roster (Good candidate to have his own sports blog, huh) Well, Masterson and the Indians went on to beat the lowly Twins 4-3. Travis Hafner (who of course Joe had never heard of.... SERIOUSLY???) came through in the top of the 8th. Asdrubal Cabrera was back in the lineup with Shin-Soo Choo soon to follow, hopefully by Friday.

At the end of the day, the Minnesota Twins and their $97M roster sent home their 40,000 fans disappointed by a loss to a last place rebuilding team. (Yes, $97 million roster. While Twins fans like to act and tell unknowing fans that their team is still a small market team, just look at their stadium and payroll. Nice, but totally boring and unoriginal. Standard Twins stuff.) Well tommorrow, .500 pitcher Liriano, and this moments Twins "ace" (the 3rd pitcher that Joe has called the twins "ace" in 2 years with the same exact rotation)will try to avoid the sweep by the last place visiting tribe. Hello Roy Oswalt? Probably not, because the White Sox might run away with it.
